Book Projekt: BIG CHAMP – Muhammad Ali photographed by Thomas Hoepker

»The man with no imagination has no wings.« Quote by Mohammad Ali.

Last year I had the beautiful opportunity to design the book »Big Champ« – Mohammad Ali photographed by Thomas Hoepker – in New York/Southampton. Together with the legend of photojournalism, a member of MAGNUM PHOTOS, Thomas Hoepker and his assistant Clara Claus we browsed through his large archive and scanned numerous pictures before making the last decisions for the book. Thomas discovered one forgotten photograph where Muhammad Ali is showing off his left fist. We decided to use this strong photograph for the cover. Thomas Hoepker had the opportunity to spend time with Cassius Clay aka Muhammad Ali and took photographs of him during an incredible period of more than 40 years.

»Ali was and is the greatest. A great sportsman, a controversial thinker, who with, his appearances in and outside the ring, enthralled people but also offended many. A polarizing figure, still unforgotten.« by Hannes Wanderer the »Peperoni Books« publisher of »Big Champ«.

I am thankful for being part of this book project which is showing an insight view of American history and getting to know Muhammad Ali point of views out of the boxing ring. RIP Muhammad Ali.

Many thanks to the musician Bryant K Steward from New York for leafing through the book »Big Champ«. You can find more pictures here.
